Fee:
$2200 includes all instruction, lodging, daytime meals, entrance fees and transfers within Peru, including Machu Picchu. $350.00 deposit accepted anytime prior to hold space in workshop with final balance due by June 15th , 2008. Neither deposit nor balance is refundable after this date. We will accept no further registrants after June 15th, 2008 due to Machu Picchu travel restrictions. We will limit number of registrants to 10.
All lodging is included at Adam L Weintraub’s family B&B, Panza del Artista. Daytime meals and transportation are included. Extra expenses would be individual excursions outside of group activities or entrance fees to museums or some churches in Cuzco, taxis, dinners & drinks and any tips above and beyond the normal for our guides and drivers.
The included excursion to Machu Picchu will be roundtrip transport on VistaDome class train service (glass ceiling to see the wonderful canyons and mountain peaks!) on the Orient Express; a private English-speaking guide during our time in Machu Picchu with thorough historical and architectural knowledge of the site; meals, entry and transport to the ruins are also included.
Travel to/from Cusco (via Lima) is not included. Flight arrangements to Cusco can often be arranged from the United States (or your country) but are significantly cheaper if arranged directly from Peru. You may contact Raymi Travel in Lima for best fares and ask them to arrange Lima to Cusco RT airfare for you. They also have a very convenient and clean hotel Hostal Mami Panchita near the Lima airport for an overnight (or two) prior to leaving on an early-morning flight to Cusco on July 4th.
A workshop materials fee of $200 is payable to PCNW and will cover the cost of chemistry and 4 plates. Additional plates may be purchased directly from Spagnoli in Cusco for $25 each. It is recommended that you bring your own film and other cameras to supplement your Daguerreotype experience.
Background:
Jerry will offer instruction on 4x5 field cameras and capture. It is not necessary to bring your own but it will be helpful. Sharing our 4x5 cameras is a part of this process as the actual plate and capture do not require continuous use of the camera. Collaboration is key in many of the sites we will visit. If you have familiarity with the Daguerreotype process already, this workshop will permit a lot more freedom to explore vision and refine your technique; to work a bit more independently from the group and truly master a complete set of work from this area.
The previous workshop held in 2006 was an overwhelming success at every level. In addition to personal growth and technical mastery, the group was invited by Teo Allain Chambi to present a show in the local Sala de Cultura in central Cusco in June 2007. This opportunity, in combination with an article in The Daguerreian Society Newsletter, confirmed the need to host another workshop. Jerry can’t wait to get back.
