Itinerary:

We will spend 6 days with Jerry’s instructive vision in the compound Panza del Artista, overlooking central Cusco. You will arrive July 4th, the day prior to the workshop to acclimatize and familiarize yourself with the neighborhood.

The first official day, July 5th, you will learn the process, the history and the technique. The second day will be hands-on sensitizing and buffing of your plates. We will start to practice, capturing a plated-image with a 4x5 field camera as well.

Once comfortable, we practice outside of the home, taking a short trip to the ancient fortress Saqsayhuaman and Q’enko on the outskirts of Cusco. We may take a ’74 Land Cruiser journey to the Salt Terraces of Maras or the natural crop terraces and amphitheatre at Moray, depending on our pace as a group.

The evening of  July 8th we will sensitize plates to take with us to Machu Picchu. July 9th we will embark early for an overnight trip to Machu Picchu where we will capture some of the essence of this spiritual place and bring that home for developing at Panza.

On the last day, after returning from Machu Picchu, we will share our understanding and context for these images - from Incan stone-work to the salt terraces or a crowded street scene. Jerry will also show us how to construct plate-holders and presentation techniques.

The last two optional days will be short journeys with our “every-day” cameras; 35mm or medium format, we will explore The Sacred Valley and Cusco itself a little more. You are free to create your itinerary as our Cusco expert Weintraub offers ideas for every taste. Markets, valleys, treks, shopping or lounging, there are plenty of distractions for our lenses and visions. These are hosted days by PhotoExperience and not part of the actual workshop – you are free to stay with us and explore a little more.
